Los Angeles 2018
The sites where I've begun painting are based on personal aesthetic criteria, memory and intuition. They started as a failed attempt to gain permission to paint the swamp cooler at Moskatel's fake flower section in 2017. These oil paintings done “en plein air” have invoked amusing and unintentional social situations, such as a father walking his young son over to the traffic island to have a look, or a muscle car pulling up, blocking a bus and thwarting traffic in order to snap a pic. The locations are unlikely and rather unremarkable, yet novel to onlookers and has been said to inspire them to make their own paintings.
