Construction Tunnel, 2009

site-based sculpture

pedestrian bridge, St. Paul, MN

This public installation considered issues of marked territory, road construction, and pedestrian flow on a railroad bridge. Actors “directed” bicycle and pedestrian traffic through a “tunnel” of 1,000 feet of scavenged orange safety fence. The fake construction scene thwarted some of the pedestrians and confused others, illuminating the assumed authority of roadside signage.
